Naïve art: n: Similar to folk-art, Naïve art is created by untrained or unschooled artists; and is characterized by its simplicity and lack of qualities found in fine art. The term usually relates to paintings, where the artist has difficulty with drawing perspective, uses strong use of pattern, unrefined colour, and simple images.

Needful: n: Anything that may have been a common or necessary item in the colonial days; such as pincushions, rag balls, old hangers, candles, rag rugs, etc. Primitive artists like to expand this word to categorize prim little odds and ends that are so irresistable, they become "must haves" or "needfuls".

Needle Felting: v: The process of felting with a needle. (See felting or felting needle)

Needle Sculpture: n: A fabric sculpture (usually referring to a doll’s features) created by a needle and thread (such as a pinched nose, stitches to separate fingers and toes, etc).

Nodders: n: A form of make-do where the fabric sculpture (usually a doll, or head) is mounted on a rusty bed spring (which allows it to “nod” because of the movement of the spring).
