Prim Fruit*

1st, Run to Joanns... I bought the ugliest fake fruit for 10-25 cents on clearance. I bought pears, apples, & carrots. Sooooo ugly & fake looking - that's why I guess it was clearance! LOL! I painted the pears brown, let dry, and then brushed watered down mod podge on them (you could use Aileens glue too!). Then shook each one in a plastic bag full of spices - cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg & pumpkin spice. The next day, I gave the pears 2 light coats of sealer. (I used Americana Acrylic Sealer/Finisher in Matte - by DecoArt.) While waiting for them to dry, I wrote my tag. Then just arrange in a basket!

  • I have used this kind of fruit from Jo-Anns also but I dipped mine in wax(not too hot) and rolled in the spices also I covered mine with fabric to make it look very prim. Just soak fabric in mod-podge, then after it was all dry I used a marker to make faux stitches and a alpha rubber stamp to stamp the word "pear" on it. They were way too cool !!!!!

  • I LOVE this idea! I'm a thrift shop junkie and see old artificial fruit all the time but couldn't think of a way to use it. Thank you!

  • Great Idea--I even have some ugly old plastic fruit that I hadn't put in the garage sale yet. I can do this with it and make it usuable again. Thanks!
